Fortunately JVC in Japan licensed the album and set in motion a series of events that led to them signing with Atlantic Records.
with an album in the can the band were quickly signed to a sizeable deal with Elektra Records who subsequently and inexplicably decided to drop the band at the eleventh hour. The album Fight to Survive was eventually released by Victor Company of Japan, Ltd, (JVC Records) in Japan in 1985. Elektra was unhappy with the final recording, and after refusing to release the album, terminated the band's contract. The first White Lion record in over 16 years, Return Of The Pride is put simply, classic rock in its truest form and a representation of the musical. Formed in New York by Danish born singer Tramp and talented guitarist Vito Brata, the band made waves on the local club scene, attracting local management who had connections to German producer Peter Hauke who offered to record the band at his studio in Frankfurt. White Lion was signed by Elektra Records in 1984 and recorded their debut album Fight to Survive. White Lion also gave birth to the socially conscious Latin urban alternative band Calle 13 and reggaetn party duo Jowell & Randy among others.
